 Support When Needed

At the Waterview, we offers several levels of support tailored to the needs of each resident so they remain empowered as they age. Our supportive living provides your loved one with personalized and discreet services to help with daily routines.


We offer several levels of support:


Level I - is for residents who are no longer fully independent, but whose support needs consist primarily of cueing and reminders and who require little or no physical assistance.


Level II - is for residents whose care needs consist primarily of a moderate level of physical assistance with activities of daily living. An example would be a resident who needs some physical assistance with bathing and dressing.

 

Level III - is for residents who require a substantial amount of physical assistance with activities of daily living, due either to care needs or behavior's. An example would be a resident requiring substantial or total physical assistance for dining, bathing, dressing and medication management.


Supportive Living Services can Include:

  • When is it time for a seniors living community?

    Sometimes, it can be tricky to figure out when it's time to consider moving your loved one to a more supportive environment. Here are some factors that might indicate it's time to start exploring your options:


    • Social Isolation - Seniors who withdraw from their friends and regular activities due to declining health, memory or personal care problems, or lack of mobility can suffer from isolation, loneliness, and even depression.

    • Physical Limitations - If someone has difficulty with their movement and balance, it can increase their risk of falling. This can lead to other health issues. 

    • Personal Care - As a person ages, they may experience trouble or disinterest in performing basic tasks like bathing, grooming, or getting dressed. Such changes can indicate the need for personal care assistance. Seniors may hesitate to ask for help, so it's essential to keep an eye out for any visible changes and have an open conversation with them.

    • Health Risks - Caring for medical conditions and maintaining overall wellness can be challenging, particularly when poor nutrition, improper wound care, or taking the wrong dose of medications is involved. These factors can turn a manageable condition into a critical one, posing significant health risks.

    • Caregiving Issues - Taking care of a loved one can be challenging and adversely affect physical, psychological, and financial well-being. It can lead to missing work, incurring expenses for hiring elder-care sitters, and transportation, which can result in stress. Ultimately, opting for a senior living community can be a more cost-effective solution and a healthier option for both the caregiver and the loved one.

  • Do you provide subsidized care?

     Yes.  Several of our rooms include government-subsidized rooms, where care and accommodation is partially funded by the Health Authority and partially paid for by the resident.  To qualify, seniors must complete an assessment as well as contact your local Health Authority to apply.

  • How do you determine the level of care my loved one requires?

    At the Waterview, before moving into the residence, our staff conducts a thorough, in-person assessment to determine the level of care a potential resident requires.  This assessment evaluates their ability to independently perform Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) throughout a typical day.  


    One benefit of the assessment is that it can provide the associated costs and services that your loved one may require.  The process is also instrumental in creating a care plan.  


    In addition, we employ a sophisticated software program for senior living that effectively monitors any shifts in your loved one's needs. This valuable tool allows us to accurately assess and adapt care plans based on concrete data rather than subjective reports.


    In essence, conducting needs assessments is extremely important as they aid both family, caregivers, and professional caregivers in identifying the required services and assistance required, as well as monitoring changes in their health status.

  • How long are your rental agreements?

    We offer the option to rent on a month-to-month basis.  However, we offer a 5% discount on rental agreements for six months or longer.

  • Can we rent a fully furnished suite?

    At the Waterview, we have several fully furnished suites for an additional monthly fee, making it easy and convenient for your loved one to move.  We pride ourselves on offering stylish and comfortable spaces that enhance the well-being and health of our residents.  

  • What kind of financial considerations do we need to explore?

    When considering a move to senior living, the first questions typically relate to cost and how to fund the new residence.


    Senior living communities typically provide a comprehensive lifestyle with an all-inclusive cost structure. This means that the fixed monthly cost of living in a senior community covers virtually everything, including utilities, food, and home maintenance. Even housekeeping services are included in the package, and you won't have to pay any property taxes. 


    Many residents and families find that senior living costs are surprisingly similar to their current residential expenses.

  • What is the best way to approach moving with your loved one?

    When a loved one needs to move to a senior living

    community, the Family is often the driving force behind such a transition.


    Talking to your loved one can be tricky.  The move to a senior living community is often viewed as a blow to their independence, and many families put off talking about the subject because they're unsure of how their loved one will react. 


    While moving is a big adjustment, moving into a vibrant, safe, and active community can extend a senior's independence.  Talking with aging loved one's about moving, well before it's needed, can help ease some of the anxiety and uncertainty around a move. 


    Tips for talking about a move to a senior living community:


    • Before discussing the topic with your loved ones, learn about the different types of senior living settings and the level of care each provides.

    • Learn about your loved one's financial situation and their options for funding their care. 

    • Involve other family members.  Resolve any care and financial issues before you have a conversation with your parents, discuss any disagreements, and ensure everyone is on the same page.

    • Some seniors are very good at trying to cover up health issues, aches and pains, and their struggle to manage a household.   You might try enlisting the help of a doctor.  Your parent will more likely have an easier time hearing advice from a doctor than you.

    • Start by saying, "I know this may be hard to talk about; however, I want to honor your wishes, and to do that, I need to know exactly what they are."

    • Present housing options with positive language, highlighting the activities, amenities, and social opportunities rather than the personal care.  

    • Make a conscious effort to speak in a calm and pleasant tone.  Let your loved one know that they're the ones to make the final decision.

    • Everyone wants to choose where they live and the kind of care they receive.  If they are healthy enough, ask your loved one to join in touring senior living communities and visit friends and family that have already made the move.

     

  • How do we ensure a stress-free move?

    Remember that you’re not on your own here-our caring staff is committed to making moving for seniors easier. We recommend introducing your loved one to our director before moving day. We are also happy to give tours, answer questions, and reassure new residents that we are committed to providing a warm, engaging place to live.
